It's hard to say that this album is the evolutionary pinnacle of heavy metal, but it's also hard to say that it's not. With the clean vocals, proud organ and near-total lack of thrash, you've got to acknowledge an old-school bent. Then again, the elements that have inspired every heavy-metal musician and fan since before there was a name for this music are here and polished to perfection. It bridges generations of sound and taste but also sounds like a band just having a blast. Buy it now.
